Review , Analysis & Precedence Studies

Firewall by Mike Allison and Aaron Sherwood

Material : A stretched sheet of spandex
Software :  Processing, Max/MSP, Arduino and a Kinect.

- An interactive media installation created in collaboration with Mike Allison.
A stretched sheet of spandex acts as a membrane interface sensitive to depth
that people can push into and create fire-like visuals and expressively play
music.

- When someone presses into it the visuals react around where the person
presses, and the music is triggered.

- I like the idea, when audience touch the screen, the fire will appear
on the spandex screen.

Kinetic Rain by Art+ Com at Changi Airport ( Singapore)

Kinetic Rain follows a 15-minute computationally designed choreography
where the two parts move together in unison, sometimes mirroring, some
times complementing, and sometimes responding to each other.
Several spotlight sources mounted below the installation create a play of
shadows on the terminal’s ceiling as they illuminate the movement of the
rain droplets.

Rain Room by rAndom International at The Curve, Barbican Centre,London

This installation is the largest and most ambitious installation yet,Rain Room
is 100 square metre field of falling water for visitors to walk through and
experience how it might feel to control the rain. On entering, visitor hears
the sound of water and feel moisture in the air and movement. For me,it is
interesting and attractive because it is a new experience for the audience to
walk through rain without getting wet.

Muti Randolph's interactive light installation

Deep Screen at The Creators Project New York Event6,000 Bulbs React To Your Movement

“My work is always trying to get people inside my head, inside the things I create.
When you are in front of a 2D monitor, that usual experience of watching TV or
going to the movies, you end up imagining you are inside the movie… But with
this stuff here, you are literally inside the action.”
I like the way he use the bulbs as a main object to attract people and how the lights follow audience’s movement.
